Welcome to the Portfolio website and the launch of our 2012 awards. Whatever your industry or sector the Sunderland Echo Portfolio Awards 2012 gives you, your company and your staff the chance to highlight your achievements and take your place among the region’s business success stories.
Launched eight years ago, the Portfolio Awards not only recognises the individual achievements of businesses on Wearside but also their role in promoting the area both regionally and nationwide.
We’ve got some great new categories this year – mainly as a result of listening to our entrants and readers about what industries and which individuals should be recognised.
For the first time we’ll be honouring companies on Wearside who do business overseas in our Export category and we’ve also introduced a new business award for medium size businesses, which have between 11 and 50 employees, while retaining our small business (under 10 employees) and large business (over 50 employees) categories.
We’re also recognising the important role served by the leisure industry with a category for this sector for the first time - giving the opportunity for organisations ranging from hotels to restaurants, from bars to leisure centres the chance to enter.
This year’s categories also cover Training, Technology, Creative Industries as well as Employer and Employee of the Year.
Green Businesses are also encouraged to enter as are New Businesses which have been in operation for under two years.
We also have our Lifetime Achievement Awards and our Overall Winner, so there’s plenty of opportunity for everyone to be recognised.

The closing date for entries is Friday August 24 and the winners will be announced at a ceremonial dinner on October 11 at Sunderland’s Stadium of Light where our guest speaker will be former star of The Apprentice, Katie Hopkins.
